Thank you, TimS

I just wanted to send a public 'thank you' out to Tim Sweeney for all the help lately. I had some major engine trouble with a 4440 that I recently purchased. I took the tractor up to my high school ag shop where some of the FFA boys did a tear-down and out of frame overhaul on this tractor. Tim has been so helpful along the way, offering advice, specialty tools and even his time.

Yesterday Tim and his high school helper, Kendrick stopped at the shop to show the kids how to install a rear main seal, adjust the clutch, and get the engine bolted back up to the tractor. The kids got to work with a world-class mechanic (instead of their in-over-his-head teacher [me]). The kids had a blast working with him and learned a good deal in a few hours. They talked about it for a while after he left. I'm not sure where we would be without his help and assistance on this project.

I read these forums and ask questions way more than I offer advice. I am just smart enough to realize how much knowledge there is on this site and how lucky we are to have a place to go for it. TimS is one of the most helpful people on here. I see posts from him daily, always helping someone else out with top-quality advice that comes from years of experience and his willingness to help others.

Thanks Tim.

Your welcome John, I really enjoy helping young people get off in the right direction as they learn about repairs..When I was young and starting this occupation I would ask the old guys questions, and the would reply "Figure it out your self Son, that's how I did".. so I vowed that if I ever learned enough about doing this I would help young guys all that I could.. so I have been showing and still learning ever since...

Tim: I sort of got the same replies when I asked questions. I usually got the bring it in and we will look at it. Which would of meant I'd have to pay shop labor and still would not know how to fix it. I sometimes wonder if those I asked who worked at dealerships didn't really know the answer either !

There is an abundance of knowledge on this site
but Tim is always willing to help or pass on
information. I do not know how he has time to do it
all but I applaud him for wanting to share his
knowledge and experience. Leading by example!!

That is very cool. I am an ag teacher in Indiana and have 3 John Deeres in the shop at school right now. I would be in
trouble if it were not for the archived questions and answers on this site. We do have a gentleman about a mile from
the school who runs a repair business out of his farm shop, and he is pretty good about helping. We even awarded him
the honorary chapter FFA degree last year. I guess he is our local version of Tim Sweeney.

If your browsing through yt and see a post of his you click on it to
see what knowledge he will drop on you. To say he is a good dude is an
understatement. Thanks Tim

I also click on Tim's replies, no matter what the subject is. It's always something interesting, and he's always trying to help someone. The shop vac post from a few days ago is just one good example. Something I never would have thought of on my own.

I've paid to learn more times than I care to think about, also a lot of trial and ERROR, I don't mind helping anybody if I can because of some of the replies I would get when I asked how to do something or that you don't know how to do that look like they were never in my shoes ,one I won't never forget was when I asked how to remove the pilot bearing from a 250 chevy crank, I ask one of the 2 brothers I was talking too how to get it out both gave me a dumb look them one answered me reluctantly how too while the other stood there grinning I was only around 15 the oldest was in college the other in the 12th grade and their daddy was one of the best mechanics in the area,i don't have any hard feeling about the incident and others but they gave me the attitude I have now about answering someone's question if I can,it goes along with the old saying you have to crawl before you can walk.

IMHO - one of the top considerations when buying an old piece of iron is - CAN YOU GET ONLINE INTERNET HELP WITH
QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to slam dealers, but seems like many don't know what they are selling, what has been sold and personal pet
peeve - rather than say "I JUST DON'T KNOW", the drone on with a bunch of BS that if swallowed consumes you're
wallet.

Off my soap box.... ;)

YT is a GREAT source of info!

Tim S has helped me on these forums a lot since 2010, I bought a 4620 from Canada & everyone said it was a "crazy" idea for a
young guy with no experience of those tractors. Tim talked me thru a major pain of a job recently & he is one of the most helpful
folks I've met & knows his stuff :)

Tim, I live in South Central TN, wish you were near, I'd pay you or someone to come fix! I have an early model John Deere 4430, 2wd, cab tractor. Have terrible steering wandering going down the road, dangerous! Sounds like from what I've read probably bad steering valve under steering wheel I guess and/or steering pump upfront. I do see a little fluid leaking under dash some onto near clutch and brake pedals. ALSO, when wheels turned a certain way there is a considerable hydraulic fluid leak up front as well!? SOOO, probably does need both fixed. I read elsewhere need to just take off steering valve under steering wheel and send to you. And see something elsewhere about one needs to rebuild front pump??? Do you do that as well? Also, can you direct me to where I can view best way to get them off, etc.? allen at tennesseeland dot com
