Model 60 -temp

Well, I ran 'Ole John' yesterday and never got above 160 degrees. I guess I will have to take his 'nose' off and find what's going on with the shutters and sylphon/thermostat. I 'think' the spring is wrong, but don't know what tension it should have - no specs. The 'thermostat/sylphon' is a NOS unit that I found (luckily - and the same year of manufacture), and responded to hot water as advertised. Thoughts ?

Also where the sending unit goes in I have seen them packed with rust and they won't show actual temp. If the water don't touch the sending unit.

I have a late (56) 60 with the newer style 180* thermostat. It will not come up to temp unless I'm working it no matter how long it runs. The 60 has huge cooling capacity vs cubic inches and seems you have to work them to get temp up even if all is working as designed.

Same thing with my 50 Juicybusa2, takes about 2 round plowing before she's fully up to temp. We were talking about this today at work actually, and like I said those old 2 cylinders sure had plenty of cooling for 2 cylinders, made to last.

I'm thinking 160 is pretty good for this time of year unless you were really working it hard.I wouldn't worry about it myself.Ron
