I would be taking that back and paying the restocking fee.
that is outrageous.
my parts man called me and wondered if I was putting in a stock order like I usually do for 1500 -2000 bucks to get the BIG discount.
I said I would be thinking about it.
last year I was fixing up a rolled 1790 planter and it was more like a 6500 stock order.
I really think Im going to pass on the stock order and just buy the parts as I need them.
He then warned me that the prices were going to increase next week.
all the more reason not to put in a stock order.
its just getting a little out of hand.
My neighbour was pricing around and found the same combine filter from JD at $105 at a different supplyer for 30 bucks
he plans on keeping the smaller secondary filter jd but using the $30 outer filter. I dont blame him and I also plan on finding out the supplyer for some of my own equipment. if the quality is there then I will be NOT putting genuine jd filters on.

Actually, I didn't have to "take it back" as I caught the error before leaving the dealership with it.

I had ordered (on-line) part # L201442 (coolant fitting) and the parts manager transposed the numbers and got the # L201422 decal instead.

The price is what cost my eye, how can a SMALL safety decal, of all things POSSIBLY cost that much?

I use to be "Die Hard" nothing but Deere parts ,,but not any more,, Deere is just a merchandiser, most of the parts are not genuine Deere stuff,,yes a lot of things have to come from there but it's worth doing some shopping,, and the computer area has made that a lot simpler..

That does seem very high. Unfortunately CNH has gotten just as bad, especially with things no longer in production. I needed to do some work on the NH 358 feed grinder last week, and wanted to replace the small blower band around the hammermill blower. It's a curved piece about 4" in width, shaped in a band approximately 15" in diameter. There were two halves, $470 for the pair. Mine was beyond welding, and so I headed to the salvage yard- $10 had me one, already taken off and waiting in a snow bank!

No wonder NEW equipment costs so much just look at all the safety decals on it ! LOL.

I remember back when I worked at Deere in the late 80's. I was reading about Deere's record profits for the year end. Well then next thing you know here comes a 10% across the board price increase ! That just wasn't right.

It takes "Profit Minded" to a whole new level... and the prices are bad enough,, but the uncaring attitude that the Mega dealers have is what is depressing...

That is totally phuqued. I am not capable, BUT, there should be a 'class action suit' against that kind of horse puckey. I tried to get some NOS bits for my '60', the numbers were waay out of line, know the parts guy and he has treated me well for over 30 yrs. He is about to retire, but said JD "has gone nuts!".

I Know it all goes the way Mike Alyward explained it a while back about how old numbers are near going extinct for the reason the higher prices,,but yes it is unreasonable... and No there is nothing that we can do about it other than make our own or find another source...Darn it...

Deere's parts group does Form, Fit, Function, when they buy parts from suppliers.
You likely will not get the original factory part. You will get the three Fs at a very large price.
I did not want to pay the price for the dash 3 point lever for the 2010.
Cut a blank and made it...it looks factory.

Last year, bought a set of distributor points from them. The 3 Fs got me a set with a weak spring.
Stuff doesn't run well when the points can't get closed in time for the next open.

I have been reworking steering clutches in a 350 dozer at work. The throw out bearings were $96 each and the pilot bearings were $54 each. The pilot bearings were smaller than a 4020 pilot bearing.

With some searching and some imagination a lot of these parts can be made or found,,it's just if you have the time or the equipment..

Hi Heathouser
I wanted a second mounting clamp bracket for a customer tractor to hold the quick release couplings/ hyd hoses on the back end of an 1830. This was the same time I found out how much a pto stub was. They wanted something like $500 or so for that bracket. They told me there was 30 in the warehouse in Regina SK. well go figure at that price. I bet 5 years later they are all still there, or went in the scrap for a few cents. i asked was it painted or in gold leaf for that price. He said no paints extra, they wouldn't even give me an old part spray can of paint from the shop out of good will, if I was dumb enough to buy the part !.
I made my own it looked so good the customer couldn't tell it at 3 ft from the factory one the other side.I charged him $70 in shop time as it took a couple hours and odd off cuts of steel to make the parts, and weld it together right, he was real pleased. Out of spite i didn't buy genuine green paint either it was some jobber stuff i picked up cheap in town. I don't buy from Deere now unless the customers paying for genuine Deere or I have to,due to no other choice!
Regards Robert

I agree, if this was my own project I would have done a lot more digging. When you work for a government entity and watch the administrators burn through money this is small potatoes.
It's important to remind ourselves that government is a non profit organization and we are pretty much helpless to change that.

dang, I could have been a rich man.
Painting/fixing up countless tractors over the years....
After paint, applying decals...
The main ones go on of course, but all those annoying little
safety stickers......on the blood, sweat and tears, mirror finish?
(not to mention the ordeal of getting that invincible factory sticker glue off)
Not a chance, in the trash they went...lol

That's right. This number is about to go "belly up". The decal obviously will not sell at this price (there probably have been very little of them sold in the last few years). So the price goes "sky high", none are sold, so the remaining lot is scrapped and written off their taxes at the "last advertised price". In other words, the part is worth more dead than alive. Mike

My boys are into high school robotics, and every year build their own robots to compete nationally in FRC Robotics. The class has bought a 3-D printer, that they can use to make their own plastic parts. Works great, saves time and money. Surely there's some sort of printer that can make up these decals, someplace, somehow. I can imagine it costing $2 to make a decal.
My youngest son is building his own 3-D printer up in his room. When I can't find my tools / drills / cords / blades,,, I know where to look. Wouldn't have it any other way.

The worst part of the whole story is the fact that it's a SAFETY decal. Deere should be giving that out for free, or at least at-cost. As I'm sure you all know, Deere was very aggressive about getting ROPS on all tractors back in the day. They practically gave 'em away when they first came out with them. Back when they cared about their customers more than their shareholders.

I bought a Vermeer 605m last fall. It didn't come with the manuals. You can go onto Vermeer's website, enter in the serial number of the baler you own, and they'll send you all three manuals free. Not a chance with Deere. You'll pay hundreds of dollars from Deere for manuals when you call B&D's 800 number...
