Which psi radiator cap for 4440

I need to replace the radiator and fuel caps on my new to me 4440, serial #048041R. The parts catalog lists 3 possibilities for the radiator cap : 7psi, 10 psi, or 15 psi. Which one should I get?

After reading part description notes and serial number break on parts key 21 I think part number RE24897 is correct but I thought AR76619 would sub to RE24897 in my shopping cart but it didn't.
Since the rad neck is the same if it was my tractor I'd probably choose AR76619 because of it higher psi rating(15 psi).

Depends on what the conditions are (work and equipment). The 15psi will run cooler but it puts more pressure on old parts. I prefer a lower pressure when conditions allow it. JMO

A higher pressure cap allows the engine to run warmer, as it raises the boiling point, it will not make it run cooler.

How does radiator cap affect boiling point?
Boiling point of water is 212 degrees F.
Amount of antifreeze will raise boiling point accordingly.

Antifreeze really does not raise the boiling point significantly, the pressure cap does that.

Water ONLY boils at 212 at sea level, look up steam pressure tables.

Here is a table on how the pressure affects the boiling.

Ok thanks everyone I will split the difference and get the 10 psi one. I dont think the current cap is holding any pressure at all. That wont work for ky summers!

I would pick the highest pressure that it can maintain, will reduce steam bubbles on the liners.

Antifreeze does somewhat change the boiling point. Every pound of pressure you put on water it raises the boiling point two degrees.

It will depend on which radiator you have.
If you have the original style with two caps
and the dual pressure system it takes the
lighter cap (I believe). The later
replacement radiator with one cap takes the
heavier cap. Mike

I installed the higher psi rad cap on my 4255 yrs back with no problems. It has the rad recovery tank setup. I also installed viscous fan lockup clips so it would run cool enough in the Texas summer heat

As an update in case anyone else is interested, I went to the dealer for some hydraulc fluid and their parts department said that the 10psi cap is a replacement/substitute for the 15psi one which is no longer made. I guess the 15 psi ones you can buy online are either older stock leftover or aftermarket.

KYpatriot: The 15# cap AR76619 is available 'new' from Deere $21.64 , www.greenfarmparts.com has it on online parts... By the way ,did you get the New 4440 owners manual, for the bargain price?......

No I didnt get it in time. I had to order a reprint. Ok ill check out that source for the cap. Thanks to all for the help, awesome site!
