Snap ring tool for pointed ends?

Get an assortment of small flat-blade screwdrivers and "picks".

Wiggle the end of a pick under the end of the snapring, then pry it upwards with a screwdriver.

External ones, yes many places sell them they have flat jaws.

Internal ones, I have heard tell of something Deere dealers may of had but don't think I ever saw one or understand how it works even though it was explained to me.
I used several screw drivers. And plenty of four letter words ! Once out if you back grind a notch in them it will help the next guy who may even end up being you !

You can pick up the flat end snap ring pliers at napa, advance, or oriley's. Probably have to find them yourself in the tool section since the kids won't have a clue what you're talking about.

I agree with Mike M on method. You might even invelt some new 4 letter words in the process. Main thing is once you get it started out don't let it slipback

Thanks, I didn't know there was such a thing as a flat snap ring pliers. Sounds like the best option for the external ones.

Last time one of those auto supply kids asked "can I help you?", I was tempted to answer "Thanks, but I doubt it"!!

I got a pair at Advance AP, under $20. External type, I don't know of any for internal rings. Just pry one end out of the groove. I have used an offset screwdriver to get under them.

Once you have removed then I grind them flat even new ones , then they don't go flying away after they sting your fingers (not guaranteed ). That's when you pray a little . On a 2-cyl power steering pump (and others with the same type)I take a small chisel and make a notch . Hope this helps .
