custom road gear sets

i was looking through a green magazine from 2012 and found an add for a company named "B&B gear and machine" in New Lebanon Ohio, says they make road gear sets with the potential of up to 21 mph. does any one know if they are still in business? a google search brought up a page with a lot of machining equipment for auction in 2014. they probably would be out of my price range but thought it would be interesting to find out if they have a set for a 720 as i have mine all tore apart any way.

thanks

Yes they are still in business ,, but I don't know much about the gear set,,and I to have considered some thing like this,, I contacted them when I was building my 60C about making some parts for me,, they could and would do it,, but it would be a 4-6 month wait and the price was extremely high,, so I'm thinking the gear sets would be very pricey too,,,but I don't know that for sure..

I have heard that you can also get more speed by holding the governor back with a piece of baling twine..any truth in that? (I never dared try it on my 1950 A).

Of course you can, but you will need a bucket with you to collect all of the parts that end up on the road!

I know a man in Newton Iowa that has installed those gears on several tractors. I was thinking around $700.00 for the gears. Be best to call B&B Gear at 937-687-1771

My FIL put a set in a JD 50 awhile back, I've run the tractor on tractor rides the last five years and no problems. I can keep up with a JD 60, and burn less fuel, though run out of power on some hills here in NE Nebraska. chris

We used to road our WD45 quite a ways years ago. One time my Dad got tired of the long drive and put a string on the governor. That tractor went from 12 mph to ~22mph. We did this for many years. One time dad was driving down the road, and an old guy got stuck behind him for a bit. He passed dad, drove for a bit, then turned around and started following dad again, occasionally looking down at something. Dad figured the guy used to own a WD45 and knew for sure it only went 12mph down the road...

just got off the phone with them, if he gets 6 orders for them he can make them for $950, he has 2 or 3 guys on the list. said it would take about 8 weeks to make once he got 6 orders. or if i wanted he could make one set for me for $1250 or so. guess ill keep the truck and trailer and put my gears back in it when i get my bearings and go together with everything. he said it would get them up to 24 mph depending on tire size.

real nice guy though.

Shops charge about $70-90/hr. Now imagine trying to build those gears in 10 hrs. $900-1250 is CHEAP. If you don't think so, educate yourself on all the steps it takes to make them. Internal splines are no joke. And they're not made from cheap material, it's also not easy to machine that material.
