JD 1010 charging question

I have a 1010 RS gas tractor. Below 1000 RPM the generator light comes on. I took the generator to a repair shop. They took it apart, turned the armature and said it worked fine. The light still comes on at 1000 RPM. Above 1000 it works fine. I installed a new regulator, and still the same. I'm thinking there still must be something wrong with the generator. I wonder if the generator shop was spinning it faster than 1000 and that's why it worked fine.

This may not be the info you are looking for but you could put a smaller pulley on the gen. It would still look bone stock that way.

I thought about that, but the pulley is fastened to a fan like piece of metal that spins to keep dirt out of the generator.

I have several 1010 tractors and at least a couple do the same thing.
I never really let it bother me. Its just letting me know that first the generator is working
because it you rev it up to use the tractor the light goes out.
second do you really want to spend hundreds of dollars to fix something that isnt really broke.
Let us know what you come up with and then I will investigate closer on mine.
I would have thought a new regulator would have corrected the problem.

Its very important that the Voltage Regulator (as well as Genny itself) has a good clean bright shiny low resistance connection to frame ground and the belt is good and tight. Its possible to adjust the VR but that gets tricky and I don't advise it for any novice to attempt.
