JD 4020 Fuel pump

Hi

I have a later model 4020 with the Rosa Master pump in it. I took the pump out for rebuilding two years ago and am now installing the repaired pump. There is a small spring that was connected somewhere on the linkage of the throttle.

Does anyone know where this spring is supposed to be connected? I guess I didn't pay enough attention or forgot.

Thanks

Which ROOSA pump, the obsolete little "CB" series, or the "DB" series?

Don't think either one has an eternal spring on the linkage, some versions of the little "CB" uses a spring on the lever of the pump itself.

I'll have to check which model in the morning, but the spring on mine is not the same as the one in this picture.

Its a coil spring bout 2 inches long and maybe a quarter inch in diameter. Without the spring in place, the foot throttle wants to go wide open.

I'm thinking spring Key #9 back in the lower area of the control pedestal is missing, broken or disconnected.

I wonder if that #9 spring broke or got lost and someone put this long spring on the fuel pump instead. I've looked in the parts book I have and can't find the type of spring my tractor has.

The spring is JD green, looks like its meant to be there though.

Take the cover off of the back of the control pedestal and have a look for/at #9.

One would need to remove side cover(parts key 17) on late model 4020 to inspect spring(parts key 9) on foot accelerator linkage

Those late 4020 have the foot throttle way too sensitive. So I guess that someone added a spring to make it stiffer and more controllable.
