was working 2 yrs ago when parked, just bought new fuel gauge set and charged batt up, now when u hook center ground up on batteries gen light comes on bright with out switch on. haven't hooked fuel sender up yet till I get this problem figured out. Any ideas! Thanks for any help. Doug

12 volts are present on the "ground side" of the generator. They are coming from the positive terminal of one of the batteries. These 12 volts come through the armature and to the armature terminal of the voltage regulator. The GEN light is hooked to the armature terminal of the regulator. Since the tractor has sat for two years, most likely there is a bare wire to the frame between the light and the switch. Starter dust will drain one of the batteries, but it has no effect on the generator light.

You might try isolating your gen light from the dash. It sounds like it is grounding to the dash. I had to wrap some sand paper around my gen light housing when I installed a new one into the dash on my 730D. Otherwise, it would stay on all the time.
