JD 3010 SITTING

Im looking at a JD 3010 Gas that has been
sitting in a shed for 9 years and not been
started in that time. It has antifreeze
and a cover over exhaust, I have not
looked at it just saw pictures. ..what are
the odds the engine is stuck etc....

Strong chance that it's not, carb and fuel system could be gubed up from old gas...it may surprise you and start...I would try to drain the old fuel out and put fresh in to start with,, I don't think the 10's had a drain port in the tank so taking the line loose at the fuel pump inlet would near drain it, be sure to use 2 wrenches on the fittings when you go to loosen it, there should be a drain on the carb to get it drained..take stuff to clean and set the points and plugs...and your favorite Lucky Charm...

Pull the dist. cap and check for fire at the points, put fresh gas in and crank it over,I have started several tractors that set for over 20 years with no problems, just check the normal things and it should be fine.

Don't know what kind of gambler you are BUT.. if you are still price dealing, I'm sure you will get it for a lot less if you buy as is. If it is fired up and runs , you are more than likely going to have to shell out quite a bit more of the green stuff. Especially if the owner has to go out of their way any to help. Like I said, with some knowlege under you belt and a few simple "tests" and the willingness to gamble a little , one like this could pay off to leave it just the way it is. Your call tho. They aren't worth much more than $ 3500- $ 4000 if nice/complete/inc full 3 pt,wide front, and ready to roll. A non-runner that is in same condition, not needing rubber, could probably be bought for $ 1800- $ 2000 max. If you are going this route, the inspection rules change a little. Post back to that affect and you will get good advice also. I've worked my butt off on a couple only to have owner try to then get restored price out of a nice running once dead tractor. Never again unless the deal is made first.Good luck.

I'm with Mike... I bought a 3020 that sat for 12 years in the basement of a bank barn in what was the milking parlor. Essentially new tires and a new battery. It was not stuck and with about 45 minutes of work and 5 gallons of new gas poured into the old, it started itself. Mine has the hated Marvel carb & someone gave it a real beating too but I worked on it and it behaves quite nicely. In all the most expensive part I had to buy was the accelerator pump diaphragm and the oils for the oil and filter changes. Once it started I was glad it was out in the big shed. My golly did it STINK but he burned it all!
