John deere 3010 oil pump replacement

I think I have determined that the transmission oil pump in jd 3010 needs to be replaced. Do any one know if this can be done thru the top by pulling the rock shaft housing or does this require a split at the transmission. Its a 1961 jd 3010 diesel row crop with a synchro range tranmission.

Diagnosis: drained transmission fluid. Checked sump screen, it was clean. Changed hydraulic filter. Filled with new transmission fluid. Separated the delivery line just under the clutch pedal. Cranked it over and not a drop came out of the tube. Any ideas, Thanks.

Yes lift the rockshaft off and the pump is right there,, I will post a pic of a tool you can make to help with the rockshaft lift..

Have you checked hyd filter relief valve(parts 55 or 58) to be sure it's not stuck open?

I have not. But I sure will when I get home today. I have part 50 listed as a drain plug. But 55 is a value. I assume I can just take off 57 to check it? Thanks Keith

It looks like I have the 53A version. I took the 57 out and the spring and valve. The valve was kind of stuck, but I got it out. No fluid leaked at all when I took it out. Then, I figured I'd check the
valve at 61. This beast gushed fluid like taking the plug out of the the tranny. So I put it right back in.

So, if there is a problem at the 61 valve. Does it stop the fluid from reaching the valve at 57?? Should I remove this whole assembly? Or should I go right after the oil pump? Thanks for all the help.

Actually parts key 58 is the valve & parts key 61 is the retaining plug. Do you still have no oil flow from trans pump delivery line when engine is running?

Not a drop when engine is running. I thought it was Strange no fluid leaked out of the bottom valve and the top leaked like a drain plug.

Here is a pic of an older one I have, it bolts to where the seat bolts to the rockshaft heading forward, 8" from the center of the rear hole to the lift point lets it balance nice.
