Jd301 park problem

Hello all,

I am purchasing a John Deere 301 today. I have been able to run the tractor and loader to see all works well. As disclosed by the seller the only issue known to him and I have witnessed it, is that the transmission won't go into parking gear. Any idea if there is a common issue with these tractors that prevents this from happening? I would appreciate any and all advice.

Thank you

Marcel

I just bought a 301 from my friends estate sale,he never used the Park feature so it was a little stiff getting it to work,it's getting better the
more I use it,can you get it into park by taking it out of gear and then putting into park and back in gear? I had to do that to start with and
sometimes even shutting the engine off to do it until it started working better.Just a thought.

Is it a later one with a hand brake. We have one at work that shows park on the shifter but it's not there and it has a hand brake on the left side. i always thought it was a little odd.

On the 300 I have you have to put the right gearshift lever in gear before the left will go into park.

Thanks a lot for all the help. The right gear shift did have to be in before it would go into park! All is working fine. Thanks again. This was my first question asked...and answered right away. Couldn't have asked for more

The previous owner must not of owned it very long ??

Now that it goes into park if you are ever on a hill and it gets stuck in park you can use the loader bucket to push the machine in an uphill direction as to take the load off of the park so it can come on out. BTDT on a 300 TLB

Yes previous owner only aquired the tractor about 6 months ago but didn't need another gas tractor. Thanks again for all the help and advice.
