John Deere 620 auto fuel shut off problem

My John Deere 620 didn't want to start. I had parked it late summer and I think it was beginning to develop issues back then. I had good flow of fuel out of the drain on the auto fuel shutoff casting, but not through the actual auto shutoff valve when I pushed the button on top. I figured it was plugged with crud so I took the sediment bulb off for cleaning. THEN I NOTICED that the "O" ring on the plunger was stuck to the sediment bulb casting. The plunger would go up and down when you pushed the button on top, but the "O" ring never moved off of the casting. I assume the "O" ring was fairly tight on the plunger so very little fuel would flow through. Took a small screw driver and "unstuck" the "O" ring from the casting. Now it movers with the plunger.

1) Can you split the casting and replace the "O" ring without replacing the diaphragms? Or, are the diaphragms damaged when this is done?

2) Am I right that the "O" ring should move with the plunger and not be stuck to the auto fuel shutoff casting?

3) What does Deere get for the diaphragms and "O" ring? On ebay the kit is around $10 with mention that they resist ethanol. Thanks everyone.

I rebuilt the fuel shut off on my 630 not long ago. Got my parts from Deere. Don't remember the price being bad. Good luck.

The o-ring you speak of must move with the shut off plunger (down when pushing manually down on plunger)for gas to pass from gas tank to sediment bowl.
Steiner offers the diaphragms and o-ring-not sure if they are ethanol resistant.

The o-ring may not stick again once it was pried lose from housing.

Fix the auto shut off.
So there.... :)
I like them. They work. They just need maintenance.
Needle shut offs can leak too.

Install a Manual shut-off even if you keep the Auto-shut-off...

I Solder the fitting closed that feeds oil to the Auto-shut-off and use a rubber wedge over the "primer Button", to allow fuel to flow..

Best of both worlds and I NEVER get gas shooting up into the Rafters anymore...

FWIW...
