Cracked Styled A Block

Hey all, I'm new around here and I need help. I have a 1948 Styled A, S/N 603***, and the machine shop says my block is cracked on the
bottom, and will leak coolant out on the ground. The block is pretty hammered, had a lot of ridge and now this. I'd like to find a new block
for it, P/N A3462R, unless you guys think something like stop leak or brazing would work (it can't be pinned). I restored a Farmall in high
school and rebuilt a Cat motor, but this JD has been in the shop for over three years without much progress. Anything you can help me with is
appreciated, Thanks.

I have veed them and brazed the cracks after they had been froze. As long as the crack is not in a cylinder, it should work.

"Block stitching" should do it by the right person who knows stitching. Ask around in your area, machine shops etc.... Where are you from ? A guy here in Massachusetts does it.

Depending on where the crack is I would think about a different block. Here in the Midwest there were a lot of those A's so parts aren't real hard to find. I have three right now and know they're not cracked but may need to be bored.

I will look at the parts "A" I have and see if the block number matches. If so - would you be interested in buying the block and having it shipped to you?

I am in Hershey, Nebraska -- Zip is 69143 if you want to chrck out shipping costs

There isnt any amount of trusting a lock n stitch over a used block. There hundreds to be baought for the price of "fixing" your old cracked block. Buy a different block and go down the field/road.

We started this out by talking of the best way to repair the block. I would look for a used block first also. But if I was going to have to repair it, I would use the Lock-N-Stitch method and pressure test it.The one type they use is more than just pinning. I was in the engine rebuilding business in central Illinois for 40 plus years. I would not try to repair a block or head if I didn't think I could guarantee it.

I checked the block on my parts tractor - the block casting is A3472R Send me an email if you need to know more.

Thanks everyone for your help, I've gotten a few offers for replacements, if the place in Turlock can't help me, I'll get a replacement from you guys. Thanks again!
