John Deere 530 Sediment Bulb Malfunction

I am having trouble with my sediment bulb allowing gas to flow to the carburetor. If I hold down the screw/nut in the top center of the sediment bulb it will allow the gas to flow and the engine will run but as soon as I leave the spring loaded screw/nut lose it will stop the engine. What do I need to do to repair this problem?

Don't want to offend, but that sort of work on fuel systems, where I am making possible mistakes and things just aren't working ... is the reason I carry fire extinguishers on every tractor and in the barn, and every p/u.

Have you had the sediment bowl off and apart? It may be dirty inside where the activation parts are or it may
assembled incorrectly(it is possible to have oil pressure inlet upside down if input oil line fitting is turned
180 degrees). Does the oil pressure gauge show normal oil pressure when tractor is running?
The gas passage may be plugged with a foreign object.

Make sure it clean. It appears oil pressure may not be properly activating the mechanism.

Thanks for the advise. I have an overhaul kit and will probably install that after I make sure the sediment bulb is clean of debris.

Thanks again
