I need to replace a differential bearing. before I get neck deep in this I am checking on parts/cost availability. JD model A , bearing JD8108R. How bad do I need to pucker up for this ? Also, I show a Timken # of 33880> or is there a better way to go>? Thanks guys.

JD8108R shows to be NA from Deere . Timken 33880 is the replacement and should be any where from $85 to $110 on line.

Drop the "R" off the end of JD bearings. Always check with a JD dealer and then shop around from there. I have had stuff not show up at Deere's site where it does at the dealer.

You should be able to get them through any industrial bearing house, either Timken or an equivalent. Call around or go online. I've used JayDee Vbelts but they may be imports. Locateballbearings.com is another.

As suggested, drop the R and take another look - JD8108. It appears they do carry it after all. Hard to believe, but even quite a few Mother Deere counter guys don't know this much about the R on bearing numbers going by past experiences.
