Trying to get the flywheel loose to fix a seal and other gaskets. 3 foot cheater and won't budge. Have you guys ever just split the nut on flywheel bolts. Then get new grade 5 or so bolts for re- installation

.. duh! Torch was sitting 3 ft away. Thanks, just a freckle of heat and it popped loose. I like to blame it on too many in-laws and turkey but I have to raise my hand guilty on that one.

While I got ur attention. What's this set screw's function?

If it's like the Ds, the setscrew keeps you from putting the flywheel on wrong. Look on your flywheel and you should find a deeper spline that would slide over the setscrew, but if you put the flywheel on any other way, it won't.

Picture of my .003 brass shims to center the cover over the oil slinger on my 1944 John Deere A. I used 3 of the spaced around the crankshaft. I got the good how to from this forum. Thanks guys!

That left side spacer that holds the cork seal has to be centered in the left bearing cover. Per this forum I leared that once I replaced the cork seal and re installed it on the crank this needs to be done. So I used some brass shim stock .003 thick to center it . The spacer is turned by the pin on the flywheel so it is not completely covered as you typically expect. It has a notch in it that the pin fits in...Sounds way more complicated than it is . The photo doesn't show the spacer real good if it all sticking through the cover.
