Hi all - I recently purchased a 3130 - a 1979 model. I have updated the hyd. remotes and had to replace the rubber bushings on the shaft that connects the crank to the hud. pump. Also relocated the fuel shut off because you needed a 38" arm inseam to reach the old one. I have used the tractor to pull a Kuhn disk mower and it has plenty of horse power to do the job. I am wondering if anyone has a 3130 and what you have experienced as far as pros and cons. Thanks in advance.

I covered a fair bit of ground with a 3130 at one time.
There were a fair number around here but 2130's and 4230's were more popular. One thing I liked about this tractor was that it was nimble enough for utility work but had enough steam to do the field work as well. Of course the fact that it ran out at about 108 hp may have factored into that. There were some changed in the injection pump govenor which overcame the tendency of the early ones to be a bit lazy. I don't know why they built them as a 6 speed box with high lo as the 2130's had 8 speeds. I didn't really miss the one gear though.Your comment about the fuel shut off made me chuckle....I used to shut mine off while standing on the ground.
Do you know the history on this tractor? There will be some that will suggest you check the coolant pH as old coolant will allow cylinder liners to fail. This is not a bad thing to do but if the coolant was changed last week or last month it will pass, but not tell you anything about the stuff they drained. I would suggest draining the transmission oil and checking the inlet screen. It is behind a large plug mounted in the side of the transmission housing just ahead of the left rear axle.....this service is often overlooked.
By updating the remotes I take it that you mean you changed them to ISO couplers? Not a bad idea as the "cheaters" used up toolbox space.

You are probably located outside of the USA . Or some tractor jockey has hauled it south from Canada.
There is a free parts book online at the JD web site. Operator's and service manual from 1-800-522-7448 .
Some of those 2130/3130/3140 have required the transmission top shaft and bearings replaced . Towing without the engine operating is not recommended .
Check the antifreeze not just for low temp protection but also corrosion protection.
Change the transmission oil filter and clean the screen. Please report back with what you find .
If a loader or other high demand hydraulic load is used. The hydraulic source and drain should not the the factory stock SCV.

Thanks guys. I recently replaced the water pump on the 3130 and flushed the system, however I will check the ph. I will pull the hyd. screen and see what that looks like.

The PH tested 8, so I can live with that.Waiting to get the transmission filter and screen via UPS- should be here this week .
