Transmission shaft cover , John Deere A , styled

JD MODEL A, styled. I believe it is the transmission shaft cover on the left side of the main case behind the flywheel. It is the cover with the mark for lining up the flywheel to time the mag. Anyway, I poked a hole in it with needle scaler, can I remove that cover, repair it, make gasket and replace simple as that? Also, I am kind of picky about oil/ grease leaks. Behind that cover on same side is a bearing holder with 3 bolts. I have gear lube leaking out from under that bearing holder. Can I remove the bearing holder and I believe the shim clean it up dope up etc without gutting the whole transmission to fix that leak. Thanks guys for the help.

Grrr! Fumble fingers. Anyway, after you remove the flywheel you will be able to easily remove both the tin 4th and 6th gear cover and the bearing cover to fix them up.

Can it be done without removing flywheel? I can see where it would be handy to have it out of the way.

You should be able to get it off by sliding the flywheel out and leaving it on the crankshaft if you don't want to lift it off and on. A little harder to get at the last bolts but can be
done.

Ok, thanks guys. I guess I will go ahead and take flywheel off. I have a leak there to fix too. Just didn't want to do it yet. So, winter storm coming this weekend and I will fire up the furnace in the shop and fix all of em.. thanks again.
