JD 40U Shifter pin

How does one remove the pin that guides the shifter? I want to replace this worn pin to tighten up the shifting some but am not seeing how to remove the old one or install a new one for that matter.

If I remember correctly, you have to remove the shift lever and then the pin comes out through the inside of the shift tower. Don't drop it into the transmission. Been a while, but that is how I remember it.

Thanks Pete, looks like the pin is flared like a rivet on the outside preventing me from pulling it through in that way. I can "un-flare" it, just wondering how I would flare a new one. Thanks for your response.

I just looked it up. The "book" says to drive it out and insert the new pin from the inside and then "rivet it over on the outside. The key words are"drive it out" and rivet it over".
