JD 1 1/2 horse hit miss magneto

A little off topic but how does one determine if the magneto on a hit and miss is hot or not

It is a "low tension" magneto, and only generates a few Volts. For the igniter to fire, the mag and the opening of the igniter points have to be timed EXACTLY.

Here's what the factory manual has to say... "Test spark by cleaning a bright spot on igniter main spring and scratch igniter end of wire across it while flywheels are rotating."
