730 propane wiring

My tractor has an electronic ignition rather than points. Behind the dash wires still go to a mounted resistor. Does this make sense or did it simply stay there when the electronic system was installed. The tractor came to me as is so I don't know the wiring history. I'm currently planning on rewiring the tractor while I have the heavy dash off to replace the fuel lines.

The electronic ignition systems require a specific total resistance in the primary circuit. This includes the coil resistance. If you are using a Petronix ignition, the required resistance varies by the number of cylinders. Also, electronic ignitions are polarity sensitive. To answer your question about the resistor, you will need to determine your total resistance, and consult with the manufacturer to find out what their recommendation is.

Depends on what part# your electronic ignition is. You can get those with positive or negative ground, as well as 6 volts or 12 volts. The petronix ignitors do not need a resistor depending on what type of coil is used. I always use the petronix coil when I do the ignitor. Its a 3 ohm coil. Be careful when wiring these, get the polarity wrong and it will cook them pretty quick. Look on your coil sometimes they say to use with external resistor on them, if its been painted over you may not see it. If its an old original delco coil it will have a part number on it. I can look that up and tell you what you have if needed.
