Magneto Drive Flange KEY

I removed my Wico C magneto today. I need to replace the shaft bushings as my rotor is hitting the cap.

While inspecting, I was able to gently remove the Magneto Drive Flange. Should this be pressed on or come out so easy? I ask b/c the machine key dropped out and I can't get it back together.

Does this mean my shaft is worn or am I just a deere idiot? What's the trick of getting back together?

As always, THANK YOU!

The magneto drive on the end of the gov. is pressed on. Replacing the bushings won't help the rotor from hitting the cap either. Someone has been in it before you and messed things up.

First of all is the quill loose in the housing, if so housing is junk. Have seen this in several C Wico's Ok the drive is on a tapered shaft held on by the flange nut that also holds on the impulse coupler. First part to go on is the impulse drive plate with trip arms and this is keyed to the armature. Mount in vise, clamp on area where rotor goes, I use a piece of abrasive cloth to protect it from the vise jaws. This keeps the armature from turning when winding the impulse coupler. Next drive cup spacers(2ea impulse spring hooks into slots)then drive cup with impulse spring. Hold the drive cups up close to the end of the shaft as you can(screw driver under bottom one) wind the wind the drive cup in the direction of rotation usually one turn push down on drive put on nut tighten to 10ft. lbs. Make sure drive cup can rotate to disengage the trip arms, if it's tight you may need to add a 10thou shim washer under the drive cup spacers. Hope this helps
