I acquired a JD D170 gas mower 54 inch cut with a old house we bought couple months ago. The guy that had it started it on starting fluid all the time. I brought the mower in found there was grass stopped up in the pick up tube in the gas tank. Changed filters oil greased everything up new blades and the mower would crank without starting fluid but with extended cranking. Its been sitting for a couple weeks .Yesterday i cranked it up had to use starting fluid and it ran like a champ for a while then started poping sounds and loss of a little power . My question could this engine possibly have a bad valve? And is this engine even worth fixing. The Hour meter says only 180 hours but it musta been a hard 180. its a 24 horse power Briggs twin cylinder.
