3020 Nebraska results

I found Nebraska test results from 1963 for the 3020 where it made 65 PTO horsepower at rated speed, similar for all three fuel types.

Three years later, 3020s tested at 70 horsepower. Were they different engines?

If I remember correctly, 3020s and 4020s were re-tested in 66 when the air cleaner was changed to dry type. That made a bit of a difference.

I owned a 65 3020d power shift and it didn't preform very well on the drawbar as far as I'm concerned. It done all ok pulling a 6 row planter but with a 3 bottom plow it was a dog. my 720 gas pulled the same plow with no problem. I had two friends that had 3020 syncro's and they almost were a different tractor. But in defense of the power shift they were great on the pto. really liked it for baling hay. jus t my own experience. john

When you scale engine down by a third and yet keep the weight of the tractor almost the same, you will end up with a pooch of a tractor on the drawbar.

Jim, thanks for pointing that out. I thought both series of tests were a mix of transmissions, but I looked again: all three tested in 1963 were Power Shifts, and all three tested in 1966 were Synchros.

The Nebraska Tractor Tests list a lot of details about the tractor being tested. Look up the actual test results and compare them to find the differences.
