The real JD service manual uses several pages of text and images. That a few sentences on a discussion forum can not match.
Forget about the IT manuals. They contain just enough info to get most people into trouble. Best rolled up and used to swat bugs.

I woulden't get too carried away trying to do it by the book. If it's stubborn a puller and heat may be necessary.

(quoted from post at 15:22:23 10/06/15) I had to get help for mine, lots of heat & puller. Mine still leaked after the new seal.

The steel rockshaft wears the cast iron housing as there is no bushing. A seal can not hold if the shaft and housing do not stay aligned.
The late 330,430,435 & 440 were updated. The cast housing was machined for bushings and revamped seals were used. The old casting can be machined for the update.
Or you can just let the oil seep out until just level with the lower portion of the housing bore. If nothing else there will be less rust on the leaking side of the tractor.
