Gas flow valve

I am having some gas seep by my cutoff valve on my 1936 A. It is the 1/4 turn type. My question is when I unscrew the valve from the top of the sediment bowl it does not seem to want to come out so is there something I have to remove on the inside to remove it. I have been fooling with it without removing the sediment bowl but does that have to come off as well to complete this task. Want to replace the valve but everyone wants to sell me a complete sediment bowl. Where would one find the valve only. As an after thought I have been fooling with this a few months and have just opened the drain on the bottom of the carb bowl and let any gas that gets by shut-off drain into a can. Is there any downside to doing this. Thanks for any info

I put a 1/4 turn ball valve on my 70 to keep my gas in the tank.

I wouldn't think you would have any problem other than a possible bug getting into the carb...

I Installed a 1/4 turn brass Ball Valve right after the sediment bowl on all three of my JD "Ds". On my JD 520 the same valve was installed next to the carb.
No more gas in the Crankcase.

I remember when I got my first B,
looking at it......sediment bowl shutoff...down to the carb....slight nose up on a B...carb to engine downhill....
"You must be kidding.....right?"
brass shutoff went in the line and drain valve I could keep cracked open when parked went on the carb.

Purists hate it, but if you have cleaned out the totally evaporated
gas/oil mix tar from a crankcase even once....
believe me, you can take their good-natured ribbing.
