3010 and 3020

What is the difference between the 3010 and 3020? I know the 3010 is older and has a different PTO set up. Are the engines the same? Rear
ends the same? I am talking about the early 3020s not the side console models.

3020 has a little bigger engine, 60 vs 65 horsepower, a different PTO set up. Less trouble prone, Available with the powershift transmission. I think they also could have a differential lock. Probably other differences I haven't thought of.

The 3020 has heaver final drives and larger oil lines to the rear hydraulic coupler, the diesel engine has an oil cooler.

Assuming you would be talking about 3020's before the serial break at 123,000. I believe both models had oil coolers. On early 3020's differential locks may have been an option as I have seen 3020's without differential locks. Actual tested diesel engine horsepower is something like 55 vs 65. The pto lever is on the right on 3020 vs left on 3010. Diesels have a different fuel filtering set up. There is an engine balancer box on the 3010 that I think may not be on the 3020. The 3020 diesel engine peaks at higher RPM's. I'm sure Tx Jim and Tim S will be along to explain some of the finer differences in the engines.

It appears subject is covered fairly well. IMHO the pto speed change mechanism is the largest difference as 3020 is far superior to 3010 in that department. Some 3010's came with 36'' or 38'' rear wheels while 3020 RC's would have 34'' or 38'' rear wheels

Was the engine speed increased on 3020s? I think 3010s were rated maximum HP at 2200 rpm and standard PTO speed was 1900 RPM. 3020s were rated maximum HP at 2500 rpm and standard PTO speed was 2100 RPM.

I'm pretty certain the 3010 didn't have the engine oil cooler. As for the differential lock, it was not available for the first year of the 3020 (64). It was an option for '65 and up. And, yes, the 3020 had the engine balancer.

Later 3020's, '66 and up, also had the dry type air filter rather than the oil bath.

As previously alluded to . The comparison is actually between three very distinct tractors. With some serial number breaks between each of the three.
The free online parts book on the JD web site is the only way to search for where identical parts are used and where updates were made.
Myself if having to choose in that class. I would look at a 2520 then a 2510. and never even glance towards a 3010,early 3020 or a late 3020.
