Re: Correct JD plow for Unstyled A

It is my understanding that it is best to have the plow hitch centered on the tractor and sometimes that requires the right wheel/tire to be adjusted in or out to make the plow follow correctly. Most operator manuals have instructions on properly hitching a plow. I think either a model 44 or model 52 JD would be appropriate for your 37 A. I pull a model 52 with my 36 A. I think it is a 2x16 and it pulls it great in 2nd gear.

I assume you were talking about the post with my 37 A and 4B plow??? Yes I hooked it off center just a little because at the time I was not interested in trying to move wheels. Works just fine if only small amount. Your tractor would use a # 52 two btm or the # 4 which came in #4 / #4B / #4c / #4d. 4B is the most common and the best built. Mine was 2-14,s and pulled fine in 2nd low or 1st hi (third)gear. Those are geared so lo that pretty much anything other than plowing was done in 2-hi (4th) accept 1st cultivating naturally. The # 44 came out in the '50,s and most were hydraulic. Not a match for your tractor. Also, If you are plow shopping I would first buy a manual to check against to make sure it was correct and had all it's parts and not an "alteration" very common through the years.I have originals for both those plows if you want. My e-mail is open.

you set plow hitch by this guide it works hitch is correct when it is set 1/2 the width of total cut plus i/4 of 1 bottom. On two 16s that is 20" from the outer edge of the front bottom in and thats where it should stay all the time move the tractor wheel get the plow straight be hind the tractor this formula works for all pull type plows no matter the brand
