John Deere 2020 diesel problems

Ok guys I need yalls help !!! Got a friend that has a 2020 thats a late 60's model. its been having a issue where when you turn the key off (no kill knob) it will still run for a few min.
then when you try to start it sometimes fires right up but sometimes not. he was told that there is a plunger inside the injector that might be sticking and to tap on the injector while turning the it over.
well this has work for him for a long time until yesterday.

he killed and could not get it to start, would turn over but not fire off. anyways he pulled the wire going to the injector and when he went to put it back on it though fire and now it will not even turn over unless you jumper the starter solenoid but it will not start just turns over.

any help,like maybe a relay or a fuse that could have been shorted out.

On the engine not turning over when ign key is turned to start position I suggest to check neutral start swith under cowl that gearshift levers protrude through. Sometimes one can remove a sealing washer or two and get old switch to make contact.

On not starting the fuel control valve is sticking or fuel solenoid has failed. Can your friend hear a "click when ign switch is turned to on"?

Why type inj pump does your friends tractor have(JDB or CDC)?

THE CBC PUMP SOLENOID UNSCREWS OUT OF THE PUMP (CAREFULL NOT TO LOSE THE PLUNGER AND SPRING ) THE RUBBER PACKING ON THE PLUNGER HAS SWELLED OVER TIME AND STICKS SO IT WONT LET THE TRACTOR START . TAKE IT TO YOUR DIESEL SHOP AND THEY CAN GET ONE . IN THE MEAN TIME PUT THE SOLENOID BACK IN WITHOUT THE SPRING AND THE TRACTOR WILL RUN, YOU WILL HAVE TO KILL IT IN HIGH GEAR . sorry abt. the caps

also on the neutral switch, it was out of gear and turning over at first until he pulled the wire off the pump and when he replaced it, it sparked thats when the key would not do anything at all ( after the wire sparked) would that have shorted the neutral switch out ??

Which inj pump does your tractor have? What's your tractor serial number?

It's a good friend of mines tractor, he's on a long haul so I'll have to go get the numbers. Be Monday though do to my work
