John Deere 60 Platform Removal

I would like to remove the platform on my 1952 John Deere 60 to clean and paint the various surfaces and replace the battery cable. The platform is fastened using two large flathead bolts similar to the platform on my JD B. Is there a specific tool I should be looking at for this job or just large slotted driver bits that fit a ratchet? Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Peter Markel

Use an Impact driver to get them out,, hit them with a hammer first,, then go to a good bolt supply (not Fasinall)and get Allen headed bolts to go back in with.

If A Deere dealer is close by they will have the Allen head bolts too. They go in a cornhead in deck plates up around the upper end of the feeder house chains. Fastenal is a good source too.

Oh yes, if you are going to replace them anyway weld a nut to them and turn them right out with a wrench.

My Dad always welded on nuts with the arc welder right away before he did anything, while they were still hot he smacked them with a hammer.
They always came right out, no problems

I must have the proverbial 'horseshoes up ...'. Mine came out with a BFS. Replaced with SS and a dab of never seize.
