Clutch won't stay engaged...

Unstyled A...the adventures continue...

I hope everyone is having a fun of a time as I am here...

The clutch has a nice snap to it disengaging. But, it doesn't seem to engage when the tractor is running and going down the road...

That means the adjusting bolts are too tight? I loosen them too much and the pulley spins.

What is the crank shaft end play?? Sound like it might not have enough?
Or there is something worn out inside the pulley.

The way my luck is going probably. Do you mean inside the pulley itself? I'm going to try the new driver again.

You mean crank endplay with the driver out? There is none, solid.

Crankshaft endplay should be 0.005 to 0.010 inches.

Endplay is measured with a dial indicator at the flywheel end. Your Dad should have one. With the clutch engaged, move the clutch lever back an forth without disengaging the clutch. The crankshaft should move side to side within the limits above.

I tightened the clutch more. The lever now comes back to a stop like it should, before you snap it back to disengage.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Read what you said and see if it makes sense..!!

You DO know that you can vary one or two castellated nut settings one flat, to "Fine-Tune" the adjustment..???

The Clutch Brake cannot stop the clutch-drum BEFORE the clutch is disengaged.............................

I'll check the endplay this morning.

With the castellated nuts, that's what I finally did to "fine-tune" the clutch adjustment.

I know that you're suppose to disengage the clutch first, then stop the movement of the tractor, then use the clutch lever brake to stop the pulley. But, thanks for letting me know to be sure.
