No. 5 Mower Knife

I just bought a couple of 7 foot Sickle Bar Knifes from a local fellow for my No. 5 mower. They seem to be exact fits and in reasonably good shape. My question is, are these from a J.D. No. 5 mower or are there other mowers that used this same knife assembly?

I'm guessing most of the Deere pitman mowers used the same knife. I know the #7 used the same knife as the #5.

Take a look at the list below.

Note that there are only two knives "common" to all mowers: [b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]AZ 958 H[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0] and [b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]AZ 1299 H[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0].

If the only difference between all 7ft. knives are the section types, then it can be presumed that all 7ft. knives can be used on all mowers.

Hope this helps.

Our local TSC even stocked them not long ago. I needed one for my LA mower only 5 foot. Bought the 7 and cut it off to fit and changed the end section.

Just did a simple copy and paste from the three different mower parts manuals.

I built a sickle knife for our 39N using the knife back of a No. 5.

A lot of work, but did learn how to "set" a rivet.

Believe it or not, and IH 27V sickle, and JD No. 5 are identical, and interchangeable....

Not that I would have been in a pinch and swaped them out or anything....
