using my (new to me) 4440 quad with a discbine for the first time yesterday. My pto seemed to engage, but my lever was very soft, without much of a friction point when engaged. It began to turn ok with no load, but when under load seemed to slow way down. Handle seemed to want to move to disengage position on its own every time the foot clutch was used too. I was told when purchased that the pto clutch discs were replaced already about 300 hrs ago....with paperwork. I also noticed that my power steering was very stiff while running the discbine, as it was very hard to turn on the corners of the field. What is/are my problems????? Fluid seems fine. When I disengage the PTO, steering works fine again....

Sounds as if pto clutch engagement piston is loosing pressure. IIRC there's a hyd pto test port under cab on LH side. Pressure should be in the 155-165# range.

The PTO clutch operating piston o-rings are probably going bad, and or the PTO detent arm could be bend a bit,,The piston O-rings are a bit ornery to change out but I have been changing them every time I replace a clutch, and I have been finding them hard and broken, from time and use,,the detent arms can bend a bit to cause the lever to jump back to off,,but since you seem to have some companion issues going on I am leaning to the piston O-rings being bad..and yes another split to check them,,Darn it,, these kind of things are why I change them while I'm in there...
