John Deere 60 Choke Non-Functional

I recently purchased a 1952 John Deere 60. The previous owner, in cleaning the carb, took apart the choke linkage at the pivot pin of the carb and was unable to reattach it in a manner that the return spring would function properly. As such, I currently have no choke. The tractor runs real well but I would like to get my choke working. After tinkering with it for an hour I have not found the correct way to reattach the linkage. Has anyone dealt/fixed this before? Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Peter Markel

I don't have a Manual in front of me, but I guess I would take the forward Inlet pipe off the Carb, so I could verify the choke butterfly operation...

The little spring under the choke lever closes the choke plates when the choke rod is pulled out. Pushing in the choke rod puts tension on the spring and opens the choke plates.

I will try to make this as clear as mud . Remove the pot-metal lever , you will see the spring and a little brass pin in the end of the choke shaft . turn the shaft clockwise , Put the spring ,hooked end on the bottom of the brass pin , insert the choke lever with the hole abt 10:00 position , now turn the lever and you will feel the spring hook up, turn clockwise to the 1:00 position and shove it in . hope this helps .

This pic may also help.

Thank you, that is very clear. It seems like such a simple process but I just haven't been able to get it to catch yet...
