LA questions

I am getting close to getting my LA in for a new coat of paint, decals etc. Everything I didn't do 15 years ago when I first redid it.

I want to do it right and had a few questions. Weren't the rear rims originally galvanized? I thought I had read somewhere they were, but maybe I am confusing solder paint on them.
Second question. Any idea what the oil linee goes to in the above picture? Normally there is just a plug where you pipe in an oil gauge. Could I put an oil gauge in line? Or would i get false readings due to the through flow through of oil?

Thanks.

Forgot to ask my third question. It has a mower on it and I am thinking about replacing all the sections on the sickle bar. Any good place to get them reasonably? Don't plan on cutting anything, but want them to look nice.
Also, after I replace them all, I was debating about galvanizing them also when I do my rims (if I go that way). What ya think?

Thanks.

Webb's Sickle Service sells pre-made units that are the correct length with or without the end with the ball to attach to the pitman. Price is cheaper than going to Tractor Supply or the such and buying rivets and knives, or was for me. I bought mine for a No. 5 mower and painted the sickle section red as a safety thing. They are raw metal so if you do not put some paint on them they will rust.

I can't answer the question on the oil line but that is of course where the oil gauge should go on a small piece of pipe and a second 90 degree elbow.

I am about to get a final half way decent coat of paint on my long running LA project myself. My rear rims are silver and not yellow. When I sandblasted the rims I found all silver paint all the way down so I kept it that way. Not sure what the correct police will say but I have seen both silve and yellow. I personally like the silver.

I was restoring a different color tractor, and found that Rustoleum's "Hammered Aluminum" color looks just like galvanizing, particularly after my technique with all my runs drips and errors. I liked it. Youmight try a can.
