sediment bowl leak

The sediment bowl om my 43 AR leaks where it screws into tank. i have tried tape, gasket seal, gasoil seal etc and nothing stops the leak. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you sure it' the sediment bowl threads and not the stem or tank? If it is the threads a coat of jb weld in place of the sealer on them will stop the leak.

i am not 100 percent sure where it is coming from. i put jb weld around the tank outlet and still see seepage out the bottom so i lean towards the bowl stem

My sessions with JB weld have been outstanding, But JB Weld & gasoline don't mix.

Agree with [b:654c4848f0]rla[/b:654c4848f0] that "[b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]My sessions with JB weld have been outstanding, But JB Weld & gasoline don't mix.[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0]"

Tried to repair the leak with JB Weld, but still had a leak after a couple of months.

Took the fuel tank to the local radiator shop to be repaired.

No leaks in the last several years.

Hope this helps.

what did they do at the shop? my problem is i can determine if its leaking from tank or where bowl screws into tank

JB Weld has been on my D gas tank for 6 years now and hasn't leaked a drop yet. Maybe I got ahold of a good batch.

I had an old McCullah chainsaw with the tank busted half into years ago. Cleaned it good sanded it for good adhesion and put it back together with jb weld. Let it cure for a couple of day's before I used it and it was leak free while cutting pulpwood for years. I do use the regular jb weld and not the fast acting kind.

Step one would be to use a pipe plug in the tank and find out which one is leaking by elimination.

Shop would have used hydrochloric (muriatic) acid as a flux with some tin dissolved in it to tin the steel of the bottom of the tank and also the brass outlet fixture shown. Used to be able to find this flux known as tinning flux on rare occasion, haven't seen a bottle of it since the 90's. Once at soldering temp, the two parts then take good new solder like a dream and you have perfection as shown. Your outlet fixture may be cracked and the leak coming thru the crack? No proper fix for that outside of a different fixture soldered into place.

That's why I mount a big A-B-C fire extinguisher in the rear area of every tractor I own. If it bothers you, paint it green.

Had the best results with Black "Forms-a-Gasket" Sealer on Clean DRY surfaces and letting it Set a couple hours..

Sure Better than any "Thread Sealant"...

Sorry for the delayed response.

The tank on our tractor was definitely leaking at the tank.

Pure speculation on my part, but he probably "boiled" the tank to remove any combustible material and vapor before soldering the piece on the tank.

did they put a new piece in there or just solder around the old one. ninhave determined that it is leaking around the piece where the bowl screws in.
