JD 1010 crawler question

We bought a used 1010 crawler years ago that has a winch on it. However the winch was never hooked up. I cannot tell how it is
driven. There is shaft that comes out of the winch that might hook up to a pto. However, it appears that there is no PTO shaft
coming out of the crawler. I would like to get the winch working. Is this a major job to add the PTO or can it even be done? I
don't think there is any PTO engagement lever at least that I can find.

I looked in the parts book but was hard for me to see what is what. Just not sure if this crawler ever had a PTO setup. It looks
like the winch lines up with where a pto would normally be. Winch has a female type shaft coming out of it. But no male pto shaft
coming out of the crawler, and there no pto controls/levers. Book was confusing one part mentioned manual other page showed
hydraulic info on winch controls.

I dismantled a john deere 40c last year and he had a long shaft from transfert case
and ran to the back and have a coupling for a belt pully

I had a 1010 diesel crawler with winch. The winch has to be hooked up to a PTO shaft. There is a back plate on the Xmission cover which is removable and the PTO assembly has to go in there. The winch itself has a control valve which bolted onto the "running Board of the tractor with a long handle. This device is much like the wheel brake on a car and uses brake fluid. the big problem those things are difficult to function unless the whole assemble is filled up with brake fluid and bled. The slightest leak and the handle will just flop around. Internally on the left side of the winch housing is a plate which if removed will expose the brake band and brake cylinder. Back in the '80s I put over $300 into the winch and its controls and it was not too much better. The brake fluid lines were always a constant problem, never stayed tight and air would get into them. I sold the 1010 and bought a 350D with winch a much better unit. You will need to get the JD shop manual for the tractor and the necessary sections for that old winch.
