What are some of the ways water from radiator can get into crankcase threw the pony motor????The oil in pony looks good. This tractor has sit for years, I got motor loose. It had oil pressure, but the water was drained. So I decided to service it. I drained oil out of both engines,Thought I would let it drain for awhile. Put water in radiator, noticed drips of water comming out cranckcase. Also noticed water on top of cranckcase buy the pony motor return line. Can't tell were it's comming from till I wash tractor.Has anyone ever had this happen? I'm gonna drain water out and pull start it to make sure its still a running tractor. This tractor might be for sale or parted out, or change to electric start. Thanks for any help.

Rick...if the diesel engine had water/weak coolant in it and it froze the diesel engine block will crack right below the injection pumps. Remove the cast pump cover and check the "floor" of that compartment for heaving and/or cracks. If that is ok then the next likely source is a bad head gasket or cracked head. If you get it started fill it with water and lock the brakes, remove radiator cap, put the transmission in 6th gear and slowly engage the clutch to put a load on the engine. A cracked head or bad gasket will cause a water geyser to come out of the top of the radiator under load. What's the year/serial number on the 70? Usually a bad head gasket/cracked head allows water into the bore and not the crankcase(???)

Im also getting water from on top of crankcase behind were you ck oil on pony motor at the return water line????

I just went back out and looked at it again the top of the crank case is wet right behind were the pony dipstick is and I think thats a return water line from the pony, thats were part of my problem is has leacked a drop every second about a gallon in 2 hrs???

Rick..there's a weep hole on the bottom the pony engine water pump. If the water pump seal is leaking it allows the water to leak outside the engine rather than into the crankcase. There's also O-rings on the two pipes (one from diesel engine block and one real short one from the pump to the pony engine block) that could be leaking. This leak may be separate and unrelated to the water getting into the diesel engine crankcase.

Thank you. I think you've covered my options,I went out and turned motor over by hand and heard bubbles out the radiator. So I really don't know what to do at this point, my email is open maybe you can call me tomorrow after 8am 870-919-2212 thanks

Rick, I think that there is a seal around the water pump shaft on the pony motor. If it leaks. it goes into the oil. If I remember correctly

I have owned 2 70Ds one back in the 70s. Had was water getting in the oil back in 71 had the original head on it. They have brass tubes in the head for the injectors and the will leak. Late heads have injector tubes cast in the head which took care of the problem. Easy to tell which head you have late heads have 1/2' plugs in the top corners above the valve cover to hook up a tank heater.
