4430 hydraulic problems

I've got a '76 John Deere 4430 powershift. It seems as if the hydraulic system shut down. I currently have no power steering and the hydraulic remotes don't work. We've tested the hydraulic pump and it is pumping oil. It appears as if the hydraulic oil is being dumped somewhere in the system and is not making it's way to the power steering system and hydraulic remotes. Also, the tractor shifts hard from 7th gear to 8th gear. I wonder if the problem might be a stuck valve somewhere in the system or if I might be looking at a much bigger problem to contend with. i.e. transmission or having to split the tractor. Does this sound like a simple repair or a major repair. Any insight would be most appreciative, Thank you. Jack

How long since hyd filters were changed & sump screen checked/cleaned? I suppose you checked frt hyd pump drive coupler to be sure pump shaft is turning with engine crankshaft? It could be as simple as some debris in stroke control valve seating area. Does hyd pump have a destroking screw?

Thanks for the advice TX Jim. I will follow thru with your recommendation and replace the hydraulic filters and clean the sump screen.. Hopefully that will do the trick. Last spring when the tractor was last used, my brother worked the destroking screw on the control valve and managed to get the power steering to work for while before quiting again...

Thanks for the advice Donmyeil. I will look into replacing the Stroke control valve. Hopefully that will cure my tractor's ailment. Thanks again. Jack
