JD 2955 PTO Won't Engage

Hi guys!

We have an open-station w/ROPS JD 2955 in our shop. It is a high hour tractor with a rear PTO that won't engage. We checked PTO clutch and PTO brake engagement pressure (remove plugs on shift cover), and pressure is GOOD!

Is there a common mechanical failure point on this series tractor PTO system?

Thanks!

If yours has a pto arrangement similar to those with the sound gard cab, there may be a linkage issue. On mine, the linkage goes under and across the cab floor. If you can pull up some panels on the floor, you may be able to see if the linkage is binding. Mine also broke the cylinder into which the pto engagement piston is driven to engage it. That wasn't under warranty. Good Luck, they are a pretty good tractor.

Ok what we found is a broken PTO Output Shaft. It looks like it broke at a welded point in the shaft. I'm not sure if this is a factor weld or not.

The hydraulic system on this tractor was running normal as far as we could tell.

The brake shoe material looks a bit chewed up.

The 4wd front axle is permanently engaged (stuck in 4wd).

The transmission console shift would not shift into gear range II.

Is there anything else we should look at while it's split at the clutch/transmission housing with the soundguard body off?
