Dad has another tractor to paint. Just finished a red "C". It turned out nice. Now he well I mean we have a 435 to paint. This one must be a later model as it has five foward gears. Someone has already removed and painted all the tin work. We just have to paint the chassis and wheels. There should not have to be too much disassembly involed. We plan on removing the fuel tank and other items. Tractor runs good. Owner just wants it painted. What are some key items to keep in mind with this tractor? Thanks for the input.

(quoted from post at 20:57:06 08/04/15) Dad has another tractor to paint. Just finished a red "C". It turned out nice. Now he well I mean we have a 435 to paint. This one must be a later model as it has five forward gears. Someone has already removed and painted all the tin work. We just have to paint the chassis and wheels. There should not have to be too much disassembly involved. We plan on removing the fuel tank and other items. Tractor runs good. Owner just wants it painted. What are some key items to keep in mind with this tractor? Thanks for the input.

How accurate is the tractor? Seen two 435's for sale at the NY Expo. One still had the spinout axles but messed up with fixed width rims mounted. The other tractor tractor was blotched with yellow axles and yellow spin out rims.
Any era of 435 could be ordered 4 speed, 5 speed tans pto or 5 speed live pto.
The operator's manual shows where to mount the decals. iirc I ordered decals from Jordies and they are accurate.
Hoses, belts, wiring etc should be black.
anything missing like fenders or the pto shield before you start ?
Check the steering shaft to steering worm get joint. There is a half moon key in there that gets wallowed out. makes steering embarrassing and difficult with wibble wobble front wheels. Steiner has a new end to weld on the steering shaft.

Also needs a JD oval muffler or the 2-53 sounds like crap. With the regular round phart can muffler which is seen 99% of the time.

This 435 has the spin out rims. They are panted yellow. I was thinking that some were silver but I
do not know. How would one find out for shure?

Read the books by JR Hobbs and look at pictures of Expo restorations . You don't seem to believe me that all spin outs left the factory painted silver ?
I posted another post but for reasons unknown it appears only under classic instead of modern ?
All hoses, wires etc should remain black. Rear axles unpainted.
How are you going to do the two tone yellow and green ?

Yes sir I believe you. I thought the spin out rims should be silver. Someone has already painted
these yellow. I will have to contact the owner and see what he wants to do about them. As far as
the yellow and green paint on the hood it has already been painted by someone else and I have
not seen it. Thanks again for the reply.

Picture of my 435 after my restoration. . . tried to make it as factory correct as possible.

While silver rims are to be correct for power adjust wheels I do not think I could bring myself to do it ! YUCK ! Yellow for me correct police be darned.
Keep the silver for Farmall Rims it goes better with the red.

You can get the hood off pretty easy but the fuel tank looks like a toughy. My bio went to putty and I just left the tank on and used E85 and MEK to get that out. NEVER AGAIN! John Craig can fix your steering knuckle.

The generator should be green. Black generators on 30 series two cylinder and 10 series NG have become an epidemic lately.
Rims should definitely be silver, though I'm not convinced the spin-outs on the 40s were always silver. I've seen too many otherwise original tractors with yellow rims.

The hood has already been removed and painted by someone else. You are right the fuel tank was tuff to remove. But it is off now as well as the radiator. Disassembly almost complete. The owner has rebuilt the front axle and the steering seems tight. Next will be removing the dash.
