Without a serial number, is there a way to identify a cast iron front end support from an angle iron support on a JD A just by looking ?

From a distance no, but at 20 feet away very noticeable. Cross gusset that supports the fan shaft A frame is all one piece. Built in very late
1943 & early 1944.. I've been am working/tinkering & resurrecting a 44 A now. Metal finish on the side it's as smooth a angle iron type...

Thanks for the response! This cross piece is welded in place. I have an A with a 44 serial tag that does not appear to have been altered/replaced, but the top/bottom radiator tanks and cap are not for the pressurized system. It is a hand start with slant dash and lights. The fan shaft support is consistent with a 44. I can't make any sense from the case cast number. I'm going to assume that this tractor has been altered, most likely the SN replaced, in its past. Thanks again for your response!!

The bolt pattern is different on the bolster, I just sold one from a war-time tractor--gonna part out whats left

Thanks for the response! I'm not sure what the bolster is. Can you describe the two bolt patterns, or relate what the differences are? Thanks!

The outside holes on the cast frame are 2 7/8 center to center----3 7/8 center to center on the steel frame Ser 3509771
