What's the best weight oil to use 30 or 40W in the crankcase?

It appears that 15-40 Rotella is popular, and works well. It's what I use. HTH

I also use Rotella 15-40 in my 73 year old JD H.

So I should run the 40W rather than the 30W since I will be running it more in hotter weather rather than colder?

Just run the multi weight, no need for single weight anymore.

5W30 is too thin for an old worn tractor that started out with loose tolerances when it was new. 15-40 will work fine for you.
