Diesel to clean tranny case

I had a suggestion from a friend to drain the tranny oil out and add 5 gallons of diesel in, drive it around and drain to remove sludge build up and refill. I use straight 140 weight oil. What do I do with the 5 gallons of diesel after drained? Is there a proper procedure to follow to do this? Will friction in the tranny ignite the diesel and burn? I have heard of this for years but worried about disposal of the dirty diesel and fire.

Friction will not be enough to worry about. You won't be going high speed. When I do it, I put the fuel in, drive in 4th gear for about 10 minutes. Shut it off, drain into a bucket and put a lid on. My used oil man picks it up with my other waste oil.

On a different tractor I was able to remove the transmission top cover and use a 18" shim shingle and scoop out all the goop and sediment out of the bottom. The deeper I went the thicker and heavier it got. Glad I did it, some diesel wounld have not dissolved it.

Last time I got it was at McCorkle Hardware in Columbia, Ia. It was "Champion" brand in 2 1/2 gallon orange jugs.

when i get into cleaning the transmission, i run diesel to help get things broken up, then i have my homemade device. I took an old dipstick and taped it to a 1/4" line, about 2 inches up. Then i hook it up to the air compressor and stab the air line into the bottom to blow up the heavy crap i cant scrap or scoop out, once i turn up as much as i think i can i dump diesel in again to wash all of the crap down and drain it out. Then throw in a couple more gallons of clean and run it around a few minutes to help wash all that i can and drain that.

the dipstick is strong enough to curve around the bottom and take the air line with it then when i pull it back up its still straight. And i can force it around a lot of things.
