If you are asking what is supposed to be there, I wouldn't have a clue.

If you are asking what am I looking at and why are these marks on the side of the rod bearing caps then those simply mark the proper way to put it back together when both marks are on the same side. The cap can be turned around and bolted together 180 degree from the position pictured which would be the wrong way since the hole for the big end of the rod was finished to final size with both marks on the same side, the marks are there to insure that you don't have it backwards on installation.

They can also sometimes point to the flywheel end of the engine (usually an arrow - also on piston where piston mark can be a notch on top side), some are numbered for the cylinder they came from and they can serve dual, and triple purposes for all the above at the same time. Common practice is to take a center punch and add them to both the rod and the cap if they are not there to begin with too which becomes a vital step to do upon disassembly if they are not there to begin with. Easy to overlook detail by those inexperienced in engine tear down mode. Yours could also mark the cam side or some other detail usually outlined in the shop manual for your engine so they can be very important and we don't know the importance without consulting the manual. Because of this unknown factor, most mechanics want to get the manual and read it first looking for exactly these 'could be important' details. Get the manual and read it.

I have read the manual and the manual says the PIP marks are supposed to be installed towards the cam shaft of the engine I am trying to find out if in the first picture I have posted if the two marks on the same side of the connecting rod are these what they are referring to as the pip marks this is what I am trying to find out because of the picture illustration in the John Deere service manual does not illustrate this..I do not want to install the connecting rod on the pistons backwards

I had to google what a pip was to start with before the previous answer I gave. Chickens make pip marks in the egg they are about to hatch from is what I found out a pip was.

If that is the language used in the manual, then yes these two V marks are the pip marks they are talking about. The author of the manual grew up country that's for sure. A proper name for them escapes me at the moment so I have no room to talk.
