I have a 300 backhoe also that I have to wiggle the steering wheel to get it to start, or lower the side booms as I am cranking. I keep hearing about the de-stroker valve and such. Is that the fitting on top of the pump that has a screw in it? There is a plug and then the plug with a screw in it? Are you to take a wrench and turn it (which way) and then back after it starts? Is there an easier de-stroker valve that you can get so you do not have to use a wrench, if so where do I get it and what would be the part number? JD 300 back hoe 1969.

On manual de-stroking you are correct in tightening down before attempting to start engine, then back screw out after starting to allow hyd pump to pump oil.

Thank you, so you would need to install the solenoid and hook it up to the crank side of the starter so it is hot while cranking right.

I ran a cable from the battery to the starter on the negative side. The starter explodes now, and the engine starts with out relieving the pressure on the hydraulic system. And yes the valve on the pump is a
relief valve and that does work to stop the pressure build up but I do not even need to do that it just starts right up. Thanks guys.

Thank you for the update .

I also think that the cheap gear driven starters are not as good as the heavy duty OE starter. I have cranked for 5 minutes on the OE starter and it just keeps chugging, I have burned up two gear driven starters. I have the old starter back on and it explodes when the cables both go to it. It weighs almost twice as much due to the huge copper coils and thick case that acts as a heat sink. IMHO
