Switching from hydraulics to rockshaft operation on 48 B

How does one switch from hydraulic operation to rockshaft operation on a 1948 John Deere B? Do I need to remove the couplers on the rear of the powr-trol and replace them with dummy plugs? Also, does running couplers off the side ports of the powr-trol allow one to more easily switch from hydraulic to rockshaft operation?

Sincerely,

Peter Markel

(quoted from post at 19:16:10 07/28/15) Besides switching to the dummy plugs you need to screw "out" the Metering Screw on the left side of the Powr-Trol valve box 2 full turns.
Thank you, I think I remember reading about that in the operator's manual. To be clear then, simply putting a pipe plug in each of the current couplers on the rear of the powr-trol wouldn't do the trick, it HAS to be dummy plugs?

When dad had a loader on the 51 A the single hose came from the side port with dummy plugs in the back. When we raised the loader we had to wait for the rock shaft to rotate and hit the stop before the loader would raise. Slow to say the least. At that time I was young and didn't know anything about this tractor's hydraulic system. Finally toward the end of this tractor's reign with the loader I tied the rock shaft in the up position to keep it from rotating it down when we were floating the loader. I didn't know anything about throttle screws at the time.

Thank you. So if I replace the couplers with dummy plugs and run adapters out of the side ports, it's just a matter of adjusting the metering and throttle screws in order to switch between hydraulic and rockshaft operation?
