2520 Hydraulic Pump Noise

I have a 69 2520 that has 4800 original hours on it and still has the 4 piston hydraulic pump in it. It seems to make a little noise when i turn the steering wheel, and when i step on the brake i get a cherp out of it. Just curious if this is normal for the 4 piston pumps, and if there is any fix to it or does it need a new 8 piston pump to fix the noise. Thanks

Operating any high demand hydraulic loads? Iirc there was an update from the four piston 0.7 and eight 1.4 displacement 1000 series pumps. To the 2.4 or 3.0cu" displacement eight piston 2000 series.

Chirping is stroke control valve. It can be replaced but
I wouldn't worry about it. It can be done when you have
the pump out for another reason.

Here you go b&d although not classified as an update in 2520 parts catalog

If it's doing everything you ask of it I would leave it alone. Just something to think about I had a 2510 gas with the 4 piston pump. I knew the motor was getting tired but it did what I needed. The hydraulic pump started leaking so I took it to the shop they told me they couldn't rebuild it so I had to replace it. I bought a new 8 piston to replace it. That 8 piston pump really makes the motor pull harder. That new 8 piston pump also blew 3 times in less than a year. The first time was 3 days after I got it back. I'm at the point I need to have the motor rebuilt but with the quality of parts and the quality of the only shop around which also happens to be a JD dealer I'm reluctant.

How would a eight piston pump blow three times is a year? It's not a design problem. It was somebody repeating an error in assemble or installation over and over again.

First time a seal went out and blew oil out. Second time a valve went out and I lost all hydraulics and the third time oil blew out again. They didn't even tell me what happened the last time. The dealership fixed it under warrantee each time but said the warrantee is running out and it'll be my problem from then on. They are the only shop around and they know it. Every time you take something to them you take a chance, one time it'll be fixed good next time they'll do more damage than good. That's a big reason I'm soured on John Deere around here.

As far as I know the kit fits both 4 and 8 piston pumps.
You would just have orings left over with the 4 piston.
We bought a new 2510 diesel powershift in '66. Deere had
some kind of program to replace the 4 piston pump with an
8 piston at a special price. We took that deal the first
month or so that we had the tractor. Noticed no issue with
power loss.
