Wico C Burnt Points

Well, I'm not sure how I did it; but I burnt my points in my Wico C Mag. I rebuilt (I thought I did) the mag. and when I fired it up, no spark but melting/smoking plastic. So, what did I do wrong? lol

Do you have battery power down to the mag instead of a grounding kill switch ? I just fixed a mag a few months ago that the guy ran a hot wire to the mag.

I hope you didn't apply any battery voltage to it?? Some Mags (more apt to be on a X Mag then a C) have a kill switch wire which you ground out to kill the spark, but if you put voltage to it you can fry it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, that's what happened. ERRRR!!! I re-wired switched and crossed wires. Thank you. Now, what to replace? LOL!

The mag. I fixed, I had to recharge the magnet, new points & cond. I ran a coil check & it was OK.

I have a magnet charger. Most magneto shop has one.
